MNMA – institution of the year

On Ceremonial Assembly of National Committee ICOM Serbia held at the House of King Peter I in Belgrade on 9 May 2018 traditional annual awards for the best results in the domain of museum cooperation for 2017 were assigned. The winners of NC UCOM Serbia charters are as follows:

- Museum of Nave and Marginal Art in Jagodina – Institution of the Year
- Matica Srpska Gallery, Novi Sad – Project of the Year
- Belgrade City Museum – Edition of the Year

Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art in Jagodina was awarded for its extraordinary international activity in the previous year including the exhibitions in Prague (“From Two Viewpoints”, at Museum of Charles’s Bridge) and Paris (“Turbulences in the Balkans”, Halle Saint Pierre), organisation of more than 20 artistic programmes in the country and abroad, acquisition of 116 works from 10 countries worldwide, and an outstanding publishing activity including a series of editions in several world languages. In the international activity of Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art led by director Nina Krstić, special emphasis was laid on the cooperation with colleagues from India within the Rock Garden Chandigarh Project, which not only presented Indian creations to Serbian audience, but also provided some of the most representative works from other continent to find their place in a domestic museum collection.
“… Our duty is to preserve our cultural heritage, and the challenge is even greater if this heritage is beyond the prevailing culture, as is the art of self-taught visionaries, not only from Serbia but also worldwide. Naturally, in this job, our profession is our consciousness and the establishment of high criteria in that mission is an imperative today, the imperative equal to the fight for our position in Europe and the world. By continuity of high-quality simultaneous development of this kind of art and culture in our country, we need to participate in the international family with the beauty of own identity”… said Nina Krstić while receiving this significant national recognition.
