<em>eccentric<\/em> today\u2014as a person, an artist, an institution?<\/p><p>What does it feel like to be outside the geopolitical center\u2014as an individual, as part of a collective, or as a citizen of a country\u2014on the periphery of peace and social progress, the distribution of political power and wealth, climate stability and ecosystems, accessible healthcare, education, and technological development?<\/p><p>What does it feel like to create outside the center of the art world? Is it possible to lead a dignified life without support, recognition, and financial compensation for one\u2019s work? Does visibility only come through participation in prestigious events? Once institutional support and mainstream inclusion are achieved, do they erase the position of independence and <em>eccentricity<\/em> forever?<\/p><p>What kind of institution should collect, study, and exhibit this type of art? Should it adhere to the models established by museums focused on mainstream art\u2014the same selection criteria, exhibition concepts, ways of collaborating with artists, and accompanying programs? Or should it strive to be avant-garde, new, turned upside down, countercurrent, braver?<\/p><p>The political moment we are witnessing is crucial for reexamining the positions of institutional power, as well as the relationship between the margin and the center. This raises the question: Who should decide on the program and concept of institutions\u2014a team of experts or the broader social community? And who is that community? All citizens interested in culture? Cultural workers\u2014curators, artists, technicians, the independent cultural scene? New forms of self-organization reveal a pressing need to change the order of things, to establish new mechanisms of functioning and decision-making, to rethink hierarchy, and to find alternatives.<\/p><p>This Triennial is therefore open to all who feel they exist outside the zone of stability, comfort, and the established order. To those who are shaken, decentered, displaced, different, unadapted.
