Прва самостална изложба уметника Јована Маринковића у Музеју наивне и маргиналне уметности под називом Фантом слободе коју је отворио академик Радомир Н. Саичић 15. маја у 18 часова. Изложба ће трајати до 15. јуна 2025. године. На изложби ће бити изложено 38 слика и 22 цртежа.
Jovan Marinković was born in 1965 in Kruševac. He graduated from the Painting Department in 1989. After two years, he acquired his Master's degree in drawing at his home faculty. He lives and works in Belgrade.

So far Marinković has exhibited at the Gallery of the Ilija M. Kolarac Foundation, the Gallery of the Belgrade Cultural Centre, the Srećna Gallery of the SKC, the SULUJ Gallery, and the ULUS Gallery. In 1997 he participated in the 38th October Salon in Belgrade. He was one of the authors at the 2006 exhibition at the Galerie Home′ art in Perros-Guirec, France, together with representatives of French art brut and marginal art scene. His participation in the Third Triennial at MNMA – RAW INTUITIVE, 2022, an international exhibition organized by the Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art was of exceptional importance.
A characteristic of Jovan's work is the negation of the classical view of the aesthetic of an artwork. Believing that art schools hinder spontaneity and originality of expression, he renounced the learned principles after completing his studies. He creates his own distinctive iconography dominated by visible elements of the metaphysical, fantastical and surreal.

The exhibition is accompanied by a printed publication (catalogue) The Phantom of Liberty with texts by Ivana Bašičević Antić, PhD, Professor Nikola Šuica, PhD, and Lepa Milošević, the exhibition curator. Nikola Šuica gives a special review of Jovan Marinković's painting in a broader philosophical context, making a connection between the metaphysical world and the world that exists within Marinković's paintings. He is particularly fascinated by the motifs that the painter finds in the film art that enter the spheres of the obscure, mythical, and mystical.
